Usually, For Mattresss Industry , it require Fireproof Certificate in Bids and some special environment for International Trade. . There is a question : How many kinds of Fireproof Standards for Mattress ?
There are two main standards : US Standard: CFR1632 , CFR1633 . UK standard : BS 7177 .
*16 CFR 1632:Consumer Product Safety Commission Part 1632 – Standard for the Flammability of Mattresses and Mattress Pads
*16 CFR 1633: United States Government Standard for Flammability of Mattresses.
*BS 7177: 2008 Specification for resistance to ignition of mattresses, divans and bed bases.
At present, there are two standards in the United States for the flame retardancy of mattresses.
They are 16 CFR 1632 and 16 CFR 1633 respectively, the former mainly tests cigarettes and the latter tests open flames.
CFR1632 :The test of cigarettes is relatively simple. After the sample is treated with constant temperature and humidity, at least 18 cigarettes are placed on the surface of the sample, half of which are exposed to the air, and the other half will be covered with a standard cloth. As long as the length of the scorch marks burned by cigarettes does not exceed 2 inches, which is the length of an ordinary person’s little finger, it is considered to meet the standard.
CFR1633: After the sample was treated at constant temperature and humidity, as shown in the photo in the test below, the sample was exposed to a pair of T-shaped combustion heads, in which the flame application time of the top combustion head was 70s, and the flame application time of the side combustion head was 50s. The test process is 30 min. Testing requirements:
The peak heat release rate shall not exceed 200 kilowatts (“kW”) within 30 minutes;
The total heat release during the first 10 minutes of the test must not exceed 15 megajoules (“MJ”).
BS 7177: 2008
Specification for resistance to ignition of mattresses, divans and bed bases :
1. The test standard mainly includes the following three sections:
BS 597-1: 1995 Tests for cigarettes
BS 597-2:1995 equivalent to match ignition test
BS 6807:2006 Tests for wooden frame fires
2. Filling materials must first meet the test requirements of the UK Furniture and Furniture Fire Safety Regulations 1988.
3. The test standard includes four different risk levels, which are low, medium, high and very high risk. We choose which level of risk test the product needs to do according to the occasion where the product is used. For example, products for household use are suitable for low risk; public places such as hospitals and hotels are suitable for medium risk; prisons are suitable for high risk, and so on.
